What led to stampede at New Delhi Railway Station
Officials noted that platform number 14 was crowded with people while the Prayagraj Express was stationed there. He added that due to delays in the Swantrata Senani Express and Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani Express, passengers had gathered across platforms 12, 13, and 14. Rescue teams and four fire tenders reached on spot
Fire and rescue teams, along with four fire engines, were promptly sent to the location for emergency response operations, according to Delhi Fire Services (DFS) director Atul Garg. (PTI Image)
'Train platforms number changed': Eye witness
"There was no one to control the crowd...It was announced that the train coming on platform number 12 will come on platform number 16," an eyewitness said. Meanwhile one of the victims' kin said, "My mother died in the stampede. We were going to our home." (PTI Image)

"Distressed by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured have a speedy recovery. The authorities are assisting all those who have been affected by this stampede," PM Modi said in a tweet.
