PM visits Mukhwa

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Mukhwa temple, the winter abode of Goddess Ganga in Uttarkashi, where priests chanted Vedic hymns as he offered prayers.

Locals in traditional attire welcomed Modi with a dance performance, forming a circle around him as he stood with folded hands in reverence.

During his visit, Modi took in the breathtaking morning view of the distant snowclad peaks surrounding the sacred site.

Mukhwa, located on the route to Gangotri temple, houses the idol of Goddess Ganga during winter when Gangotri Dham remains closed.

The Prime Minister flagged off a trek and bike rally and also delivered a public address in Harshil to promote tourism and connectivity.

His visit follows the approval of two major ropeway projects worth over Rs 6,000 crore for Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib to enhance accessibility.

The Uttarakhand government’s Winter Tourism initiative aims to promote religious tourism, homestays, and local businesses, with Modi’s visit expected to boost global interest.

The visit comes just a day after the cabinet committee on economic affairs, chaired by PM Modi, approved two major ropeway projects for Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib, with a combined investment of over Rs 6,000 crore.

Mukhwa, located along the route to the Gangotri temple, serves as the winter seat of Goddess Ganga. Each year, the idol is relocated from Gangotri Dham to Mukhwa temple after the temple’s portals close for the winter season.
