MUMBAI: Rainer Bohm, an intellectual property attorney from Germany, knows nothing about cricket. But, courtesy a flight from Dubai to Mumbai, he soon got a sense of the game and how big it is in India."I sat next to your captain," Bohm, who arrived aboard the EK594 flight in Mumbai for business, told TOI. Bohm couldn't recall the name at first but explained that he was a long-haired guy.
Moments later, perhaps taking a cue from the chants of the crowd gathered outside at Sahar, he exclaimed, "Oh yeah, Dhoni."
A first-class passenger, he was among the first to make his way out of the airport after the most eagerly awaited flight of the day had landed in Mumbai. Asked what Dhoni was up to on the plane, Bohm replied with a wink, "He was a fine guy flirting with the beautiful stewardesses on board and enjoying their attention." Bohm had obviously realised that he had bagged a very special seat — Dhoni and his boys were the cynosure of attention from the cabin crew, as well as co-passengers. But he did not get beyond making some polite conversation with the T20 World Cup-winning captain. Raman Sahni, an NRI from Dubai, said it was a "lovely coincidence" to be on the same plane as Team India."I had no clue about their travel schedule. But it was a great feeling to find the boys we watched with excitement two days ago on TV so close to you today," said the businessman who is visiting Mumbai for four days. Since Sahni was not armed with a camera, he put his cell phone to good use to click pictures."The boys were cool, walking up and down the aisle, pulling each other's legs, generally having fun. As the hours went by, the energy levels came down and some of them went off to sleep," said Sahni who is staying at the Grand Hyatt. Sahni said he did notice a "white man" sitting next to Dhoni and recalled feeling envious.
