NEW DELHI: Even as Hurriyat Conference on Sunday deferred action against pro-independence People''s Conference members for joining the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the amalgam chairman, Abdul Gani Bhat, has already started "removing" its leaders from various posts in the conglomerate.
The first axe fell on Abdul Majid Bandey, spokesman of Hurriyat Conference in the capital, who has been asked by Bhat to "hand over" charge to Khalil Mohammed Khalil of pro-Pakistan People''s League.
Bandey was a trusted lieutenant of slain moderate Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Lone and enjoys support of his sons Sajjad and Bilal.
The letter to Bandey said "in pursuance of a joint session of Hurriyat Conference, comprising members of executive council, general council and working committee, you (Bandey) are requested to hand over charge of Kashmir Awareness Bureau to Khalil as an interim arrangement."
Efforts to contact Bandey for confirmation of the report did not fructify.
