How to prevent another Hathras? Our Constitution holds the answer

The Constitution promised a nation that will value scientific temper and promote a culture of healthy inquiry. How did then we become a country of people who fall over each other in slush to collect the mud touched by the tyres of Bhole Baba’s car?

“When encouraging blind faith to gain electoral victories becomes more important than people’s lives, God will keep dying again and again even in his own country,” wrote journalist Gauri Lankesh in her column for Bangalore Mirror on April 11, 2016. She was referring to a stampede at the Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala.
The reason to revisit her thoughts is yet another stampede, this time in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, that claimed 121 lives.
