After many challenges, the first dual-carriageway cable-stayed bridge in Asia over Goa’s River Zuari will be ready this month. It will reduce the travel time between key locations in North and South Goa by almost 30 minutes. It is also India’s widest cable-stayed bridge, with eight lanes
Some laws of physics had to be conquered for the construction of this bridge. Such a design was attempted only once abroad, albeit failed, but never in India.
For the eight-lane new Zuari bridge, the carriageways were divided into four lanes each, with each carriageway as an independent, cable-stayed structure. Ukrainian partners, French designers, and Chinese consultants were roped in to make this design work.
