Dima Hasao, a region in Assam once marred by insurgency, has transformed into a conservation hub and tourism destination. Conservation efforts for this majestic bird played a large part

A jubilant atmosphere envelops Umrangso in Assam’s picturesque Dima Hasao district. Banners, festoons and posters dot the streets as the quaint hill town hosts the annual Falcon Festival.

Now in its ninth year, the two-day event (November 30-December 1) not only marks a celebration of the majestic Amur falcons – the world's longest-travelling migratory birds – but also pays an ode to the remarkable transformation of Dima Hasao from a region once marred by insurgency into a conservation hub and tourism destination.
