India will have three SSBNs by early next year as the country is steadily bolstering its nuclear triad. The other components of the triad include the land-based Agni ballistic missiles and fighter jets like Sukhoi-30MKIs, Mirage-2000s and Rafales that can drop nuclear gravity bombs

India on August 29 commissioned its second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine INS Arighaat, in a major step towards further strengthening its strategic deterrence capabilities amid a two-front war threat from China and Pakistan.

The country also plans to commission its third SSBN (naval parlance for nuclear-propelled submarines with nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles), INS Aridhaman, early next year.
