Accusing the BJP of playing the “caste card” by raising the issue reservations in AMU, Mahasabha spokesperson Ashok Pandey on Sunday said that

caste

based reservation is only creating fissures in the society and hence should be discontinued. “It has only fragmented the society rather than providing any benefit to it”, he claimed.

"BJP’s slogan Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas is meaningless when only a particular caste is benefited by reservation," Pandey said.

Referring to the recent developments of the State and National Commission for SC, questioning the AMU authorities for not providing reservation to SC/ST students in their Institute, he said the BJP has no real concern for the people and had raised this issue only for political reasons.

The matter was escalated last month when Yogi Adityanath, during a rally, demanded a quota for Dalits in minority institutes like AMU and Delhi-based

Jamia Millia Islamia

. Aligarh MP Satish Gautam had also written a letter to Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor stating that the university should provide reservation to Dalits till the court decides the matter.
