Himanta takes oath as Assam CM

Himanta Biswa takes Oath as 15th chief minister of Assam today, at a grand ceremony held at Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati. The oath was administered by Governor Lakshman Prasad. With this Himanta became the first non-congress leader in Assam’s history to serve two consecutive terms as chief minister.

PM Modi, top leaders attended ceremony

In the oath ceremony several top national leaders were present including Prime Minister Narender Modi, Union minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and BJP president Nitin Nabin. Also Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from 22 NDA-ruled states and Union Territories also attended the event.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also attended the event as a foreign delegate.

Key NDA leaders in Assam cabinet

Along with Himanta Biswa Sarma, several prominent NDA leaders took oath as ministers in the new Assam cabinet.

BJP leader Rameswar Teli, who won from Duliajan, joined the cabinet. AGP president Atul Bora, who retained the Bokakhat seat, was also sworn in. BPF leader Charan Boro, elected from Mazbat, took oath in the Bodo language. BJP leader Ajanta Neog, who retained Golaghat and previously served as Assam’s Finance Minister, also took the oath.

Ranjit Das likely to become Assembly Speaker

Soon after the oath ceremony, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that BJP MLA Ranjit Das would be the NDA’s candidate for Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly. BJP’s victory reshapes Assam politics

The BJP-led NDA won 102 seats out of 126 seats in Assam Assembly. Whereas, the Congress-led aliens was only able to secure 21 seats, while AIUDF and TMC was able to occupy remaining three seats.

NDA leaders credit PM Modi for victory

Several NDA leaders credited Prime Minister Narender Modi for the alliance’s victory.

Union minister Chirag Paswan said the result reflected people’s trust in the “double-engine government,” while NCP MP Praful Patel praised the NDA leadership for winning public confidence. AGP president Atul Bora called the NDA government’s work in Assam “unparalleled” and highlighted the state’s development under PM Modi, Amit Shah, and Himanta Biswa Sarma.

NDA leaders visit Kamakhya temple

Ahead of the ceremony, leaders including Union minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta, Bihar chief minister Samrat Chaudhary, Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant, Maharashtra Deputy chief minister Sunetra Pawar and Rajya Sabha MP Praful Patel visited the Maa Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, describing the NDA’s victory as a step toward the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047.”
