BENGALURU: The Karnataka assembly speaker said on Monday that the

sought by CM H D Kumaraswamy would be taken up at 11am on July 18 (Thursday).

The decision gives the coalition two more days to save the government by wooing rebel MLAs while allowing for whatever possibilities the Supreme Court verdict on the MLAs' resignations throws up on Tuesday.


The SC, dealing with the plea of 10 rebel MLAs, agreed on Monday to hear five more lawmakers, who have sought identical relief, on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the rebel MLAs stationed at Powai's Renaissance Hotel, are likely not to vote. With three more rebels having joined, the total number of rebels at the hotel has gone up to 15 - 10 from Congress, 3 from JD(S), and 2 Independents.

In the legislature, no official business will be conducted till Thursday as BJP said it would not be part of proceedings in a House where the government has been reduced to a minority. The party said it was confident of defeating the trust vote and would form the next government in three to four days.

"Kumaraswamy will not be able to continue as CM. He, too, knows it. I think he will quit after making a good speech," B S Yeddyurappa said .

Kumaraswamy, on his part, dismissed questions from reporters, saying, "I have full confidence... why do you worry?"
