Amarmani Tripathi was denied permission to go to UP for two days to file his nomination papers for the ongoing assembly elections.
DEHRA DUN: Amarmani Tripathi, the UP legislator who is the main accused in poetess Madhumita Shukla's murder, was again denied permission to go to Uttar Pradesh for two days to file his nomination papers for the ongoing assembly elections there. Nainital-based Uttarakhand High Court Judge P C Pant rejected the plea on the grounds that allowing Tripathi to leave Dehra Dun to go to UP would be against the SC's direction of a daily hearing of the case.
Last week, a sessions court had denied him permission to go to UP on similar grounds. The apex court had transferred the case to Uttarakand last year. Amarmani is likely to now file an appeal in the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Madhumita's servant Deshraj identified two of the accused in the case — Santosh Rai and Prakash Pandey. He told the court that he had seen both of them in Madhumita's house on the day of the murder. The defence counsel, however, countered that Deshraj was giving the statement under pressure from the CBI.
