Hardik Pandya is being booed relentlessly, and this, as many have pointed out, is most unusual. For the home crowd to boo its own captain is something we have rarely seen.
The one example from the past that comes to mind are the chants of ‘Ravi Shastri hai-hai’ that used to echo around grounds in India. I remember the crowd chanting this in a World Cup match well after Shastri had retired; he had become a meme before we knew what memes were.
