Hafiz Saeed’s release a 'hugplomacy failure' of PM Modi: Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday termed the release of LeT chief Hafiz Saeed a "hugplomacy failure" of PM Narendra Modi.
"Narendrabhai, baat nahin bani (Narendrabhai, it did not work). Terror mastermind is free. President Trump just delinked Pak military funding from LeT. Hugplomacy fail," Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet on Saturday.
The Congress leader signed off the tweet with "more hugs urgently needed".

Rahul Gandhi's tweet came a day after the mastermind of 26/11 attack, Hafiz Saeed, was released from house arrest after Pakistan government decided against detaining him further in any other case.
In October too, Rahul had targeted PM Modi over failure of his hug diplomacy.

Saeed, in his late 60s, was under house arrest for 297 days since January.
The fire-brand cleric's release after midnight came ahead of the 9th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in which 166 people, including six Americans, were killed.
Earlier this month, the US Congress decided against including action against terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) as a condition to reimburse Pakistan for its cooperation in the 'war on terror', reported Pakistan's Dawn newspaper.
A new version of the US bill authorizing such payments to Pakistan from the Coalition Support Fund, retains action against the Haqqani Network but has no mention of the LeT, Dawn said citing the 'National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA 2018) for Fiscal Year 2018 Conference Report.'
