KOCHI: Kerala police has beefed up the security for a government lawyer who appeared on behalf of state government in Hadiya case at the Kerala high court after he filed a complaint alleging threat to his life.
In a complaint addressed to the state police chief, P Narayanan, senior government lawyer to advocate general, alleged that threats have been made against his life in a Facebook post by a user named Key Cee Naseer Nasi by alleging that he colluded with the RSS lawyer who represented Hadiya’s father KM Asokan before the high court.

The Facebook post said, “On the day of ‘bad luck’ when Hadiya was asked to go with her father, government pleader Narayanan came out of courtroom number 4, ran through the verandah towards the RSS lawyer showing ‘thumbs up’ gesture, and then shook his hand to share the happiness in sending a woman named Haidya to torture. Yes, he’s not a nominee of BJP-RSS at the high court. He’s an original CPM nominee who hails from Kannur.”
Narayanan’s complaint to police said, “According to the said post, a person reading the instructions forwarded by the police to me for the case and the judgment in the case would not be able to sleep without filling my mouth with mud.”
As per the high court’s judgment in Hadiya case, the lawyer had submitted that the marriage between Hadiya and Shefin Jahan was a forced marriage and was a ploy to defeat the court’s proceedings in the habeas corpus case filed by the father. The judgment had also stated that the government pleader had submitted that it is a case of forcible conversion and that Hadiya is not capable of taking an informed decision on her own.

The judgment stated, “According to the learned Senior Government Pleader, Ms. Akhila has been influenced by feeding her with graphic details of hell and the torments that sinners are subjected to in their life after death. She has also been made to believe that in order to escape from the torments of hell, acceptance of the Islamic faith was the only way.” In another part, the judgment noted, “The Senior Government Pleader, who represents respondents 1 to 4 (police officials) generally supports the contentions put forward by the counsel for the petitioner.”
Ernakulam Town North police said it has increased patrolling during night at Vaduthala, where the lawyer resides. Police has now sought the help of Cyber cell to identify the Facebook user, who allegedly made statement against the pleader.
