Gen Bipin Rawat & wife's ashes immersed in Ganga at Haridwar
NEW DELHI: The ashes of late Gen Bipin Rawat and his wife were immersed in the Ganga at Haridwar by daughters Kritika and Tarini on Saturday morning.
Earlier in the day, they had collected the ashes from the Brar Square crematorium at Delhi Cantonment, where Gen Rawat and his wife Madhulika were cremated on Friday evening.
Tarini, along with her elder sister Kritika, on Friday performed the traditional rituals at their home. The daughters also performed the last rites of their parents at the crematorium.
Gen Rawat- India's first Chief of Defence Staff- his wife, and 11 other defence personnel were killed when a Mi17V5 helicopter carrying them crashed near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
The CDS was accorded a 17-gun salute before the cremation, according to laid down protocols and cremated with full military honours.
A ceremonial battery of 2233 Field Regiment provided gun carriage. About 800 service personnel were in attendance for the military funeral.
