LUCKNOW: Former Cabinet minister and SP leader
Gayatri Prajapati was sent back to Gosainganj prison on Wednesday after getting bail in a rape case on Tuesday.
The city police dug out old cases and convinced the court to send Prajapati back to jail in judicial custody.
Om Prakash Mishra, special judge of POCSO court, observed that Gayatri and two more men were implicated with malafide intentions.
According to sources, the police team handling the case produced conflicting accounts because of which Gayatri was able to convince the court to grant him bail.
By 5pm, the police produced case diaries of two FIRs registered at Gautampalli and Gomtinagar police stations in the past against Prajapati in order to convince the court that letting him out on bail can jeopardise the ongoing investigations in the two criminal cases.
The drama over Gayatri’s fate started unfolding on Tuesday evening soon after the news of Gayatri’s bail was broken.
Senior officials associated with the case held a meeting at the DIG's office until 3am on Wednesday to chalk out the future strategy.
On Wednesday morning, when Gayatri reached the court, a police team and government advocates reached there with the copy of the other FIRs which had been lodged against Gayatri.
The court remanded him back in judicial custody.
Senior superintendent of police Mazil Saini met legal luminaries on Wednesday noon with the copy of bail order and case diary. The city police was thinking of moving the court again to cancel Gayatri’s bail.
A woman from Chitrakoot approached Gautampalli police station on February 17 alleging that she was gang-raped by Gayatri and two more men forcibly for several months before she alerted the police. She also alleged that the three had also sexually assaulted her minor daughter at Gayatri’s residence.
