Gandhi jayanti: PM Modi, President Murmu, Rahul Gandhi pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu and leaders across the political spectrum paid their tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and India’s second prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary on Wednesday (October 2).

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi paid his heartfelt tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary and said, "On behalf of all countrymen, salutations to 'Pujya Bapu' on his birth anniversary. His life and ideals based on truth, harmony and equality will always remain an inspiration for the countrymen."

PM Modi also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary.

"Respectful tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, who dedicated his life for the soldiers, farmers and self-respect of the country," PM Modi said in a post on X.

Born in Uttar Pradesh in 1904, Lal Bahadur Shastri was the second Prime Minister of India and served from 1964 to 1966. He died in Tashkent on January 11, 1966, at the age of 61, soon after signing the Tashkent Pact with Pakistan.

Former PM Shastri was a great visionary leader, who understood people's language and who led the country towards progress. Shastri Ji was deeply influenced by the political teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.

President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 155th birth anniversary at Rajghat in the national capital.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud along with other judges of the Supreme Court pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in observance of Gandhi Jayanti.

Congress leader and Lok Sabha leader of opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Wednesday morning.

In a post on X, Rahul said, "Bapu has taught me that if you want to live, you have to live without fear - you have to walk on the path of truth, love, compassion and harmony, uniting everyone. Gandhiji is not a person but a way of living and thinking. Tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary."

The Congress leader could be seen paying his respects to the most iconic figure of India's freedom movement on his 155th birth anniversary, who steadfastly followed the principles of truth and non-violence.

Taking to X, Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin wrote, "Gandhiji is the face of non-violence, truth and religious harmony. Although he is the soul of India, it cannot be overstated. Gandhi is more needed in the current environment than in his time. Let us divide the people of India, subdue the forces cooling in the fire of partition, make the fraternal India that the Father of the Nation wished to see bloom again and make him a tribute!"

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Patna. Taking to X, the Bihar chief minister wrote, "Tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. Bapu's ideals and his thoughts inspire us. We should follow Bapu's thoughts and pledge to take them forward. Bapu's path and his teachings will create an atmosphere of brotherhood and harmony in the society and the country will move forward."

Congress chairperson and party president Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge respectively pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi in Parliament House premises.

Taking to X, Kharge wrote, "The thoughts and ideals of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, who showed the path of peace to the entire world through the highest values of truth, non-violence and satyagraha, the architect of the Indian freedom struggle, are always inspiring for us. Today, we are countering the challenges his ideas are facing by following Bapu's principles. Heartiest greetings of Gandhi Jayanti to all countrymen."

Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary.

Taking to X, he said," Humble tributes on the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, the seeker of truth, messenger of non-violence and peace. His entire life is a message of loyalty and dedication towards the nation. The ideals of revered Gandhiji inspire us to remain continuously active for the overall progress of the nation and society."

Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar pays floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

In a post on X, "The life and high ideals of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, will always inspire every generation of the country to follow the path of duty. Many many salutations on the birth anniversary."

Delhi chief minister Atishi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 155th birth anniversary, also celebrated as 'Gandhi Jayanti' at the Rajghat in Delhi on Wednesday.

In a post on X, Atishi said, "Best wishes to all the countrymen on the 155th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi is not just a person but an idea, in front of whose practice of truth and non-violence even the dictatorial government had to bow down. Even today, Bapu's path of truth and non-violence is the biggest strength in every fight against dictatorship."

The Delhi Chief Minister also paid floral tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at Vijay Ghat on his birth anniversary.

Meanwhile, Delhi lg VK Saxena also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti.
