G RAM G will help farmers and labourers, says Shivraj Singh Chouhan
NEW DELHI: Union agriculture and rural development minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday said that the newly-enacted Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act (VB-G RAM G) will address labour shortage faced during peak farm seasons, thereby striking a balance between welfare of farmers and labourers.
In a virtual address on the occasion of Farmers Day, Chouhan said information about this new development must be disseminated among farmers across country through Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
VB-G RAM G Act has replaced MGNREGA. Under the new law, labourers will get work for 125 days a year instead of 100 days under MGNREGA, except for two months in a year when they are expected to be available for agricultural work.
"G RAM G is extremely useful in broader interest of the country as it empowers the farming community and makes it self-reliant. While G RAM G fully takes care of uplifting labourers, it also focuses on farmers, ensuring sufficient labourers are available for farming," said Chouhan.
He said that govt's objective is to increase income of farmers as well as labourers, and that will be achieved through this new law.
