From April, no fuel for vehicles older than 15 years in Delhi as government tightens rules to tackle pollution

NEW DELHI: Delhi government on Saturday decided not to provide fuel to vehicles exceeding 15 years of age at petrol stations throughout the city after March 31. During a meeting with officials regarding air pollution control measures in the capital, environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa outlined the government's robust initiatives to reduce vehicle emissions and pollution.

The discussion centred on crucial policy initiatives, including limitations on aged vehicles, mandatory anti-smog measures, and shifting towards electric public transportation.

"We are installing gadgets at petrol pumps which will identify vehicles older than 15 years, and no fuel will be provided to them," Sirsa said following the meeting.

He indicated that the Delhi administration would notify the Union ministry of petroleum regarding this implementation.

Sirsa further announced that all tall buildings, hotels and business complexes in the capital must install anti-smog equipment to reduce air pollution levels.

Additionally, he revealed that approximately 90 per cent of public CNG buses in Delhi would be withdrawn by December 2025, with electric buses taking their place as part of the administration's initiative towards cleaner public transport.

These declarations are components of Delhi's comprehensive strategy to address air pollution, which remains a critical issue for the city's inhabitants.
