Freak accident: 4-year-old girl dies after dog falls on her from 5th floor in Thane - video

NEW DELHI: In a freak accident, a four-year-old girl lost her life when a dog fell on her from the fifth floor of a building. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday in a crowded, narrow lane in the Mumbra area, as reported by PTI, citing a police official.

A widely circulated video of the accident showed the dog falling on the girl. Following the impact, a woman, who was walking with the girl, picked her up and ran, while the dog slowly got up.


The young girl sustained severe injuries when the dog landed on her. She was immediately taken to a hospital, but unfortunately, the doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival. However, the circumstances surrounding the dog's fall remain unclear, as it is not known whether the animal jumped or was thrown from the building.

Authorities are investigating whether the dog's owner had obtained the necessary permissions from the Thane Municipal Corporation to keep the pet and if any negligence on their part contributed to the tragic event. The police official stated that the girl's body has been sent for an autopsy at a government hospital, and the investigation is ongoing. The mother of the deceased child has provided a statement to the police, indicating that she does not suspect any foul play in her daughter's untimely death.
