NEW DELHI: Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister
Kamal Nath, who had kept
Congress on the edge amid reports that he and his son Nakul were planning to dump the grand old party for the BJP, on Friday put to rest all speculations and praised Rahul Gandhi for leading a decisive fight against injustice, exploitation and oppression.
"People of Madhya Pradesh and Congress workers of the state are excited to welcome Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. I urge everyone to join the yatra in large numbers to provide strength and courage to Rahul Gandhi," Kamal Nath said in a post on X.
The rumours of political switch came amid reports that Madhya Pradesh chief minister was unhappy over being denied a Rajya Sabha nomination by the party leadership. Earlier, Kamal Nath was also removed as the state Congress chief after the party's debacle in the assembly elections.
Last week, when Kamal Nath visited the national capital with his son, it led to speculations that the senior Congress leader was in talks with the BJP. The presence of several Congress MLAs from the Chindhwara region added fuel to the fire.
When asked by reporters about the rumours doing the rounds, Kamal Nath instead of denying it outright, asked the scribes not to get excited. Asked if he is joining the BJP, Kamal Nath said, "If there would be any such thing, I would inform you first."
When a reporter asked if he was not denying a possible switch, Nath said, "It is not about denying, you are saying this, you people are getting excited. I am not getting excited, this side or that side, but if there would be any such thing, I would inform you first."
This even as several senior party leaders and close aides of Kamal Nath outrightly denied reports of his BJP switch.
