GODHRA: At the end of a detailed examination of the Godhra railway station premises and the remains of the burnt S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express on Monday, the Nanavati-Shah Commission claimed to have "conclusive evidence" about how the incident had occurred. The burning of this coach on February 27, 2002 had claimed 59 lives, sparking off a state-wide communal riot.
The commission''s third visit to the scene of crime comes a day before investigating officer DSP Noel Parmar is to depose before the commission and weeks after the Union Railway ministry-appointed panel headed by Justice (Retd) U C Banerjee conducted a detailed site examination.

The visit drew a lot of parallels with the Banerjee committee visit, the commission comprising Justice (Retd) G T Nanavati and Justice (Retd) K G Shah visited the S-6 coach and the spot where the carnage took place. Nanavati stated that the commission had already asked the state government to supply it with technical details like the material used in coaches.
This panel took note of other prominent spots connected with the incident like Aman Guest House, where the conspiracy to burn the coach was allegedly hatched. At the Godhra railway station, Shah told TNN, "despite the evidence being conclusive, there was a need to verify it once again."
