NEW DELHI: Coordinating efforts with the Myanmarese Army, the Indian security forces have been fighting the Naga rebels of the NSCN (Khaplang faction) in Tirap and Changla districts of Arunachal Pradesh. IAF deployed helicopter gunships, killing between 40 and 50 insurgents, defence sources said here. Reports of fighting have come even as Union minister Oscar Fernandes has announced that he would travel to Bangkok by the month-end to pick up tenuous threads of the peace process and extend the ceasefire pact with NSCN (Isac-Muivah), the rival larger faction, that ends on January 31.
