DEHRADUN: After Swami Nigmanand, a crusader for river Ganga who died after 115-day long fast, another recluse Swami Poornanand Sarswati has begun his indefinite fast-unto-death from Saturday(July 30) at Matri Sadan Ashram in Haridwar.
The 27-year-old Swami Poornanad who considered Nigmanand as his Guru Bhai has started his fast to protest against Uttarakhand Government inability to recommend a CBI probe into circumstances leading to death of Swami Nigmanand on June 13.
His other demands include imposing a blanket ban on 80 km long Kumbh area ranging from Muni-Ki-Reti in Tehri district to Bahadarabad-Laksar in Hardwar district and strict action against Administrative and police responsible for hatching a conspiracy in the alleged murder of Nigmanand and those shielding his killers.
Information to this effect was given by founder of Matri Sadan Swami Shivanand Sarswati and Swami Poornanand Sarswati at a joint press conference held at Matri Sadan Ashram on Saturday.
Swami Poornanand started his fast as the deadline set by Ashram to concede these demands by Uttarakhand Government came to an end on Saturday(July 30), they said.
These recluses said deadline to concede these demands was set Matri Sadan Ashram in Haridwar about a week ago after a meeting of its members.
Swami Shivanand Sarswati and Swami poornanand said that what has annoyed them most is the way Uttarakhand government totally misled and befooled them by repeatedly saying that "government had recommended to UPA government to order a CBI probe into the death of Nigmanand on June 15, while actually no such recommendation has been made so far till today."
They said despite enough evidences indicating that Nigmanad was poisoned to death at Haridwar district hospital on April 30 after he was admitted there on April 27 due to deterioration in his condition caused by fasting which he began on February 19, the state government has not bothered to recommend a CBI probe to Central government.
They said this is apparently because Government is allegedly bent upon shielding those including land mafia involved in illegal river-bed mining and crushing in Haridwar, who are actually involved in the murder.
Swami Poornanad Sarswati told reporters that he is determined to continue his fast till their demands are met and all those responsible for murder of Nigmananad are identified.
