Farmers Protest, Delhi Chalo Protest Highlights: Farmer leaders blame Centre for 'attack' on protesters, claim 60 injured in tear gas shelling

Farmers Protest, Delhi Chalo Live Updates: Amid the ongoing farmers protest, Union agriculture minister Arjun Munda said a law guaranteeing Minimum Support Price (MSP) on crops cannot be brought in a hurry without consulting all stakeholders and urged the protesting farmer groups to have a structured discussion with the government on the issue. Munda also cautioned the protesting farmers to be "aware and alert" about some elements which could defame their protest for political benefits.

The government has also made a ministerial delegation that held two rounds of discussion with the farmers' groups, including Samyuka Kisan Morcha (non-political), Kisan Mazdoor Morcha in Chandigarh, to resolve their concerns.

However, as the talks remained inconclusive, farmers' groups have started their 'Delhi Chalo' march.

Meanwhile, scenes of chaos filled the Shambhu border as the police tried to stop the protestors from entering the national capital. The protesting farmers were seen attempting to break the multi-layered barricades using their tractors and hand weapons. Haryana police detained several protesting farmers as they marched towards Delhi on Tuesday. Visuals from the border showed farmers running towards nearby farmland on the sides of the road as police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protestors.

A petition was filed in the Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday against the sealing of the borders between Haryana and Punjab, especially at Shambhu near Ambala, by Haryana to prevent farmers from marching towards Delhi on Tuesday.

The petitioner, Uday Pratap Singh, a resident of Panchkula, sought directions from the court to stay all obstructive actions by Haryana, Punjab, UT Chandigarh and the ministry of home affairs against the “peacefully protesting” farmers.

“Implementing obstacles likes layers of nails, reinforced concrete walls, electrification, and barbed wire fences undermine the foundations of a democratic society governed by the rule of law, where respect for human rights and legal principles should prevail,” said the petition which would come up for hearing on Tuesday.

The petition has submitted that the action of Haryana authorities, including suspension of mobile internet services and bulk SMS in several districts, such as Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, and Sirsa has exacerbated the situation, depriving the citizens of their right to information and communication.
