MANSA: Serving a blow to ‘save the girl child’ campaign, a farmer killed one of his three daughters by throwing her in a drain. He tried to pass it off as an accident but confessed to the crime on Saturday after he was arrested.
According to information, Satnam Singh, a resident of Gehle village, used to quarrel with his wife Rekha Rani for giving birth to three daughters.

When the arguments got out of hand some time back, Rekha left home and started living with her parents in Mansa.
“Rekha brought along two of her daughters – Manpreet Kaur, 6, and Rajpreet, 1, --but left three-year-old Gurjeet Kaur with Satnam,” said Rekha’s father Gaja Ram. On March 2, Satnam threw his daughter Gurjeet in a drain and informed people that she had slipped into it while playing.
But when Rekha got to know about the incident, she approached the police alleging that Satnam might have killed their daughter.
Mansa SSP Hardyal Singh Mann said upon thorough police investigation it was established that Satnam had thrown the girl in a drain to kill her. “Satnam has confessed to the crime and a murder case has been registered against him,” Mann added.
