Family rift widens as Lalu's daughter appeals to Nitish Kumar for 'safe home'
PATNA: About a month after she broke off relations with her family, RJD chief Lalu Prasad's daughter, Rohini Acharya, signalled there was further strain when she appealed to Bihar's govt to ensure that every woman can stay safely in her parental home. Rohini, who lives in Singapore, had donated her kidney to her father Lalu in Dec 2022 for transplant at a Singapore hospital.

In a social media post on Thursday, she indirectly praised chief minister Nitish Kumar for distributing Rs 10,000 among women and giving cycles to schoolgirls, but said these steps were inadequate. Rohini said that in Bihar, a deeply rooted patriarchal mindset creates the need for widespread change in both social and political spheres.
"Every daughter has the right to grow up with the assurance that her parental home is a safe place, where she can return without fear, guilt, shame, or having to explain herself to anyone," she wrote on X, asserting implementing this measure is not just an "administrative duty" but a step towards saving countless women from future exploitation and harassment.

Her observation comes about a month after she quit RJD and disowned her family members following a verbal spat, allegedly with her brother Tejashwi Yadav over RJD's assembly election disaster. She also alleged she was accused of donating a "dirty kidney" to her father after "extracting crores of rupees and a Lok Sabha ticket".
