Expenditure on North-east tripled in last 8 years: Government

NEW DELHI: 17 airports have been made operational in the north-east and new projects worth Rs 19,855 crore have been sanctioned for constructing railway tracks of 864. 7 km from 2014-15 till date, the Centre told the Lok Sabha on Monday as it also stated that actual expenditure in the last eight years (2014-2015 to 2021-22) in the region has nearly tripled.

Responding to a written question, Union minister for development of north eastern region (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy added that the development of a new greenfield airport at Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh, and that of Dibrugarh, Guwahati and Silchar airports in Assam, Imphal airport in Manipur, Barapani airport in Meghalaya and Agartala airport in Tripura are ongoing. Regarding railway projects, Reddy said new projects worth Rs 19,855 crore have been sanctioned for constructing railway tracks of 864. 7 km since 2014-15 tilldate.

On the amount allocated for projects in the region, The ministry informed that the actual expenditure rose from Rs 24,819 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 70,874 in 2021-22, which also include waterway, telecom and power connectivity in the North-east.
