Veteran Congress leader and former Kerala minister Paul P Mani died today after a prolonged illness, party sources said.

KOCHI: Veteran Congress leader and former Kerala minister Paul P Mani died today after a prolonged illness, party sources said.
Mani (83) breathed his last at his daughter's residence at the nearby Vaduthala on Monday afternoon.
He leaves behind his wife, a daughter and a son. The funeral will be held tomorrow at St John Bapist Church at the nearby Chottanikkara.
Mani, who was keeping indifferent health for the last few years, had kept himself away from public service.
A well-known freedom fighter, Mani, who started as an ordinary Congress worker, had also served as the KPCC Vice-president and Treasurer.
Mani was elected from the Tripunithura Constituency on his third attempt to enter the assembly and became a minister in the C Achutha Menon cabinet, holding the Food portfolio from 1972 to 1977.
He was also Chairman of the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) from 1978-81.
Ernakulam District Congress Committee President V J Paulose, KPCC General Secretary Benny Behannan and a large number of party workers paid their respects to Mani.
KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala condoled the death of Mani.
