The Election Commission of India announced pan-India Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voters' list or electoral rolls. The phase 2 of the survey would be carried out in 12 states/UTs. The 12 states/UTs include Andaman & Nicobar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. "The second phase of SIR (Special Intensive Revision) is about to be carried out in 12 States/UTs," CEC Gyanesh Kumar said. Mustafabad to be renamed Kabirdham: Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Monday that his government will propose renaming Mustafabad village in Lakhimpur Kheri district to 'Kabirdham', stating that the change would restore the area's historical and cultural connection to Sant Kabir. SC declines to initiate criminal contempt against lawyer who hurled shoe at CJI
The Supreme Court declined to start criminal contempt of court proceedings against 71-year-old lawyer Rakesh Kishore, who recently attempted to attack the Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai, by hurling a shoe at the CJI-led bench on October 6. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi reasoned that, when the Chief Justice of India himself has let go of this incident, initiating action against the attacker would only further glorify him.
