Encounter breaks out near Srinagar

SRINAGAR: An exchange of fire broke out Tuesday between security forces and terrorists in a forest area of Ganderbal, about 60 km north of Srinagar, the Army said.

The Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said that based on specific intelligence input, a joint search operation was launched by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Arahama area. “During the search, vigilant troops observed suspicious activity. On being challenged, terrorists opened fire, and our troops retaliated,” the Army said, adding that the operation is continuing.
