A survey of the Indian working class in three states has thrown up alarming statistics of the effect the pandemic has had on nutrition intake

Thirty-year-old Reshma Mokenwar, a resident of Bhandup in Mumbai, used to work at a marriage bureau in Thane, earning Rs 7,000 a month. During the lockdown, Reshma lost her job. Her father was a private driver but is now retired. Her 22-year-old brother was working in a financial company as an agent. However, he too has lost his job. Her mother earns Rs 5,000 working as a cook.

The pandemic has devastated the livelihoods of this family and the result is a drastically reduced food intake and consequently a massive reduction in their daily nutrition.
