NEW DELHI: When the education ministers of various states get together for the
Central Advisory Board of Education
meeting on Tuesday, they will get to evaluate two reports by
Educational Consultants India Ltd
(a
PSU
under the HRD ministry) and
CBSE that have unequivocally recommended bringing back the Class X board examination.
In its survey of 192 out of 13,348 affiliated schools, Ed CIL found that the mindset of parents continues to be the same even after the introduction of the Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation system in 2009-10. "Parents feel that students passing Class X under school-based examination are considered of medium standard as compared to those passing through board-based examination," it said.
The survey also found that children are losing the habit of regular studies and are not preparing for the examination as they used to do earlier since they now know that they are not going to be detained by the school due to the huge weightage given to the co-scholastic evaluation under the
CCE
pattern.
In an online survey by CBSE, 68.56% of the parents/students and 84.95% of principals/teachers said that the summative assessment of Class X at the end of the second term should be conducted by the board only.
