EC directs state govts to remove all unauthorised political advertisements

The Electoral Commission (EC) has instructed state governments to promptly eliminate any unauthorized political advertisements from both public and private properties on Wednesday. All unauthorized political advertisements including graffiti, posters, pamphlets, cutouts, billboards, and banner flags must be removed from public spaces without delay, the EC directed. It has mandated that a compliance report be submitted by March 21.

NEW DELHI: Election Commission on Wednesday directed state governments to immediately remove all unauthorised political advertisements from public and private properties in the next 24 hours.
In a letter to cabinet secretary and chief secretaries of all states & UTs, EC took serious note of non-compliance of its instructions dated March 16 to remove all political advertisements in a time-bound manner from public spaces.

"All unauthorised political advertisements, in the form of wall writings, posters, papers or defacement in any other form, cutouts, hoardings, banner flags were ordered to be removed in a time bound manner from public spaces like railway stations, bus stands, airports, railway bridges, roadways, government buses, electric/telephone poles, municipal/local bodies' building and a strict compliance in this was to be ensured", EC directed.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be held in 7 phases between April 19 and June 1. The Election Commission on Saturday announced schedule for Lok Sabha polls and 4 state assemblies. The counting of votes will be done on June 4.
