Dual citizenship poses challenges, but debate still alive: Jaishankar
CHENNAI: Union external affairs minister S Jaishankar on Friday said there are a lot of complications in providing dual citizenship to Indians settled abroad.
Interacting with entrepreneurs at 'TAKEPRIDE 2023', the 20th Young Indians National Summit organised by the CII in Chennai, Jaishankar said: "There are security and economic challenges (in providing dual citizenship). There are challenges as to Indians living in which countries should be provided dual citizenship."
The external affairs minister said, "The OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) is the step to bridge the demand. But the debate (on dual citizenship) is still alive." He was replying to a question posed by one of the participants about the ease of doing business for Indian entrepreneurs settled in India and the prospects of providing dual citizenship for them.
In reply to another question on the recent announcement of Union home minister Amit Shah on reservation of 24 seats in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and possibility of holding elections there, Jaishankar said it was "reaffirmation of sovereignty of India". He said, "The mechanism (of holding elections) is complicated, but the basic message has been sent and it is loud."
Earlier, at the summit, Jaishankar said whenever he thinks of India, he remembers about the three 'Ts' that are shaping the country - talent, tech and tradition.

My parents were born before partition in Karachi Sind - after partition that part become part of Pakistan- due to circumstances we couldn’t not move to India - being a Hindu living in Sind Pakistan is very challenging- especially when there is any muslin related issue come under debate in India for e.g Babri Mosque- 3 talalk - Kashmir issues etc - during this time some locals take advantage of the religious issues and they harras Hidus - most of my family members are Indian citizen including my grand parents - but getting Indian visit visa even being Hindu is big challenge- i would request the concerned ministry to provide assistance to the Hindus who wish to visit India to meet their close siblings or wish to do pilgrimage- - unfortunately visit visa not granted - What the Hindus of Pakistan can do - HE Jai Shankar kindly look into this problem- and by all means do security check- on the other hand Pakistani are or were granted business visa’s to Muslim very easily and that too not reporting to CID or Police Station while Hindus have to report to CID or Police Station - I don’t understand the certeria - please provide easy visa process for Pakistan’s Hindus - Thanks for your support and understanding.Read allPost comment
