Drug trafficker wanted by FBI held in Punjab

An Indian-origin international drug lord, Shawn Bhinder, connected to a major US drug seizure, was apprehended in Ludhiana after fleeing FBI capture. Bhinder, who was involved in smuggling cocaine from Colombia, had been operating under the pretense of a legitimate transport business in Canada since 2014.

TARN TARAN/AMRITSAR: Police arrested an Indian-origin international drug lord wanted by the US from Ludhiana on Monday, reports Yudhvir Rana. Shehjaz Singh, alias Shawn Bhinder, was a native of Mandiala village and currently residing in Brampton, Canada. He is wanted by FBI in one of the largest recent drug seizures in the US, on Feb 26.
Ferozepur DIG Swapan Sharma said Shawn was a key player in a global narcotics syndicate, smuggling cocaine from Colombia into the US and Canada. After the crackdown by FBI, Shawn managed to secretly arrive in India. Cops said Shawn was also wanted in an Arms Act case in India. He had been operating under the guise of a legitimate transportation business in Canada since 2014 and allegedly facilitated the movement of drugs.
