EDINBURGH: A theatrical experience in English that brings alive two of the strongest women in Indian mythology, Sita and Draupadi, is bound to be a riveting experience.
Shomshuklla’s hour-long stage show, ‘We Draupadis and Sitas’, staged at the Edinburgh festival, with support from The Times of India, was a touching retelling of old stories in a modern theatrical idiom.

The play features three female characters, Sita, the epitome of the traditionalism, a young Draupadi and an older, more mutinous Draupadi who dared question her husbands.
Women today may not connect with these dilemmas, but the play is an exposition of their moral strength and how they remain relevant even today. The play, which opened in Mumbai earlier this year, was watched by a rapt audience across venues in Edinburgh.
