From Deepika Padukone at Cannes to Gigi Hadid, Jain is draping sarees for top stars
Had Dolly Jain’s sari-draping skills not impressed Sridevi, Jain would still have been a happily married mother of two living in obscurity in Kolkata. The turning point happened when her uncle hosted a party in Mumbai that had her idol, Sridevi, in attendance. “Something accidentally got spilt on her sari, and I offered to help fix it,” she says.
Initially hesitant, Sridevi let Jain do the pleats. “Once over, she looked at me and said: ‘I have been draping saris since I was kid. Today, there are so many dress-dadas in the industry. But I have not seen anybody do pleats the way you do. Why don’t you take it up as a profession?’”
