KOLKATA: Women will be the worst-affected if an Assam like NRC exercise is carried out throughout the country, advocates, rights activists and legal experts said after examining the data and anecdotal evidence of the north-eastern state.
In Assam, women outnumbered men in the category of ‘doubtful voters’. These included the cases that were referred to the foreigners’ tribunals and those who have been declared illegal migrants already because they failed to produce the relevant legacy documents and establish their patrilineal links.
