DMK's Stalin takes jibe at Tamil Nadu CM Vijay: 'Became CM by influencing children through Instagram'
NEW DELHI: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin on Monday took a jibe at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Joseph Vijay, saying he became Tamil Nadu chief minister by "influencing children through Instagram."
Speaking at a wedding reception in Thanjavur, the DMK president said, "TVK leader Vijay became CM by influencing children through Instagram, without even appointing booth agents properly."
"Law and order in Tamil Nadu is being questioned due to the daily murders taking place - the DMK government must not fail as badly as the previous one in protecting the lives and property of the public. In Padappai near Kanchipuram district, college students engaged in part-time work singing Ghana songs were hacked to death. Near Thoothukudi, a youth was murdered following a dispute over drinking alcohol—these murders, rivalling in number the days since the new government took charge, have instilled fear in the hearts of the public," the former CM said.
"In the DMK's past five-year rule, the police force's hands being tied was seen as a major reason for the breakdown in law and order; now, with the TVK coming to power, doubts are beginning to arise among everyone whether the same situation persists," he alleged.
"Therefore, I urge the TVK government and its CM to realise and act on the fact that their primary duty in administration is not only to identify and take appropriate action against the perpetrators of the daily murders in Tamil Nadu but also to protect the lives and property of the public and uphold law and order," he added.
The remarks come weeks after the DMK suffered a major defeat in the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly polls, where Vijay-led TVK emerged victorious and formed the government with support from Congress, Left parties, VCK and IUML.
Stalin also shared a post on X, urging the party workers to counter any misinformation being spread by the ruling alliance while assuring that the DMK would not disrupt governance. "A new government has been formed. We won't be a nuisance while they govern," he said.
"Let them govern! But if they launch slanderous attacks on us to cover up their inadequacies, we will provide clarifications. If they spread lies on social media, we will expose the truth--I'm requesting this of my comrades," he added.
The DMK chief also referred to the organisational meetings and his interaction with party cadres during his visit to Thanjavur and Tiruchirappalli.
"I attended the wedding ceremony of my dear brother Poondi Kalaivanan at Thanjavur Dharani and congratulated the bride and groom. This is a family celebration of the party, where Poondi Krishnasamy and Poondi Kalaiselvan dedicated their lives to the party!" Stalin wrote on X.
"After a short interval, I'm heading out of town. From the moment I landed in Trichy yesterday, I understood the emotions expressed by DMK comrades and the people upon seeing me. I know you. You know me. We don't need words between us," he added.
Earlier, Stalin had announced the formation of a 38-member committee to conduct a constituency-wise review of the party’s defeat in the state assembly elections.
The committee has been tasked with assessing the situation across all 234 constituencies and gathering feedback from grassroots workers and party functionaries.
"Regarding the Legislative Assembly election results, I had appointed a 38-member committee to conduct a ground-level study across all 234 constituencies. Today, during my meeting with them, I gave several important instructions on how this study should be carried out," Stalin had earlier posted on X.
He instructed committee members to listen to party workers without bias and submit reports by June 5, adding that organisational reforms would be implemented by the end of June.
The DMK was reduced to 59 seats in the 2026 assembly polls amid strong anti-incumbency. TVK won 108 seats and formed the government with support from Congress, CPI, CPM, VCK and IUML.
