Violence rocks Kashmir amid Ramzan truce: 10 points

* A protester was killed in clashes with security forces today in Brakpora village of Anantnag district. A police spokesman said that a hand grenade had exploded in Sheraz Ahmad's hand, resulting in his death due to splinter injuries.


* 21-year-old Army jawan Bikas Gurung was killed when Pakistani troopers targeted a patrol party along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

* Rifleman Aurangzeb, who was abducted and killed by terrorists on June 14, was laid to rest in his native village in Poonch. A huge crowd gathered for his funeral procession.

was abducted while he was on his way to celebrate Eid with his family, and his bullet-ridden body was found later in the day in Pulwama's Gusoo.




* Aurangzeb's grief-stricken father, ex-serviceman Mohd Hanif, demanded his son's death to be avenged in 32 hours. He said that his son had sacrificed himself to the nation, and he urged to central and state governments to eliminate militancy from the Valley

* One CRPF jawan was injured today in firing by a terrorist upon the the troops of the 29 battalion at Srinagar's Pantha Chowk.

* There was no exchange of sweets between Indian and Pak forces stationed at the Attari border.




* Couple of days before Eid, editor of the Rising Kashmir daily, Sujaat Bukhari, was gunned down by bike-borne terrorists outside his office in Lal Chowk, Srinagar. Two personal security officers of Bukhari were also killed in the attack.

* Earlier this week, India rejected a UN report alleging human rights violations in Kashmir as "fallacious, tendentious and motivated." The external affairs ministry said the report is "overtly prejudiced" and seeks to build a "false narrative."

* Security for the annual Amarnath Yatra, that starts later this month is being reviewed. A bus carrying pilgrims was targeted by terrorists last year, leading to the death of 7 yatris.

* The Centre is expected to monitor the situation for some more days before taking a decision on extending the ceasefire. Some sections within the security establishment are believed to be against an extension, contending that it allows terrorists to regroup.
