Dispur assembly election results 2026: Pradyut Bordoloi wins for BJP, registers 49,667-vote lead

In Dispur, Pradyut Bordoloi of BJP secured a commanding victory, polling 1,03,337 votes and defeating Congress candidate Mira Borthakur Goswami by a margin of 49,667 votes. Independent candidate Jayanta Kumar Das finished third with 22,802 votes, as the constituency delivered a decisive mandate in favour of BJP.

In Assam's Dispur, BJP's Pradyut Bordoloi is in direct contest with Congress's Mira Borthakur Goswami.

Exit polls had suggested a decisive edge for the incumbent government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma, with most agencies predicting that the Bharatiya Janata Party is on course to win a third straight term in Assam.

Voting for all 126 constituencies took place on April 9, with turnout exceeding 85%—among the highest seen in recent years.

Importantly, the strong voter participation was evident not only in rural regions but also in urban areas, indicating widespread and energetic engagement from voters across the state.

Dispur is an assembly constituency in Assam's Kamrup Metro district, part of the Gauhati Lok Sabha constituency. As Assam's capital area, it includes urban neighborhoods like Dispur, Beltola, and parts of Guwahati, serving as an administrative and commercial hub.

BJP's Atul Bora won decisively in 2021, following his 2016 victory with 198,378 votes (71.14per cent share) and a massive margin over INC's Akon Bora (68,181 votes). He reclaimed the seat from INC's hold pre-2016.

The seat has high literacy (over 90per cent) and around 269,000 electors across 272+ polling stations, drawing professionals, government workers, and students in a densely populated urban setting.
