Soren said his wife called on Sonia when he was in jail for complicity in the murder of his private secretary Sashinath Jha.
DUMKA: Did Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi step in to help JMM chief Shibu Soren get released from jail? ''No one supported me. Only my family members stood by me... Rupi (his wife) had a word with Sonia Gandhi on the matter,'' Soren said in Dumka on Monday. Addressing a public rally on the JMM's 29th foundation day here late on Sunday night, Soren said his wife called on Sonia when he was in jail for complicity in the murder of his private secretary Sashinath Jha.
Soren's revelation created a buzz in Dumka on Monday with people glued to TV sets watching him speak at the rally. Sources said Soren uttered these words to calm down his party workers who were furious with Congress for ''destabilising'' the Koda government. But, sources said, Soren did not realise its implications. Despite expressing his loyalty to the Congress chief, Soren was apprehensive about the fate of Koda government. He appealed to party workers to attend the March 13 JMM rally in Ranchi in large numbers. ''Irrespective of whether the government is there or not, we will submit a memorandum to the governor,'' he said.
