NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties has recommended withdrawal of anti-dumping duty on imports of calcium carbide from China and Romania.
The designated authority, in a recent notification, said, "continuation of duties would serve no reasonable purpose," and recommended immediate withdrawal of duties imposed since January 22, 1999.
"The authority is of the view that the cessation of such duty is not likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of dumping and injury," the notification said.
DGAD had initiated sunset review on a representation from Shriram Vinyl for continuation of the duty after the expiry of five years period in view of the continued injury to domestic industry.
The authority concluded that China and Romania had dumped calcium carbide into India while noting that there was no cooperation from Romania.
It said there was no price underselling with regards to China and no continued injury to domestic industry.
"Likelihood of recurrence of dumping and injury to domestic industry could not be established... There is a gap between domestic production and total domestic demand of calcium carbide," it said.
