NEW DELHI: The Modi wave swept away a number of heavyweights such as former PM H D Deve Gowda, Jyotiraditya

of Congress, former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti, father-son Jat leaders Ajit Singh and Jayant, former Congress CMs Ashok Chavan and Bhupinder Hooda, and his son Deepender.


Other losers included a couple from Modi's council of ministers, Hardeep

Puri

and K J Alphons. BJP rebelturned-Congress candidate

Shatrughan Sinha

lost to Ravi Shankar Prasad. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra was trailing after leading briefly over BJD's Pinaki Mishra. Two other ex-CMs who lost were Sushil Shinde and Veerappa Moily. Congress leader in LS Mallikarjuna Kharge also lost in Karnataka. Former BJD leader Baijayant Panda lost after having switched to BJP. Milind Deora lost despite Mukesh Ambani's endorsement.
