Delhi suicide case: Wife hacked his social media account, mentally tortured him, says Puneet Khurana's family

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old businessman, Puneet Khurana, was found dead at his home in Kalyan Vihar, northwest Delhi, on Tuesday in what appears to be a case of suicide, police officials said on Wednesday. His family has alleged harassment by his wife and in-laws.

"She (Puneet's wife) used to keep torturing him. I want justice for him," Deceased's mother said while talking to news agency ANI, adding, "He never used to tell us about the things because he thought his parents would be worried."

The deceased's sister said, "Manika Pahwa, her sister and parents mentally tortured and harassed him. There is a video recording of around 59 minutes, in which Puneet has mentioned details of harassment he faced. The woman had even hacked Puneet's social media account."



Khurana was involved in a divorce case with his wife and his family says he was distressed by the situation. According to the family, Puneet last spoke to his wife over the phone before the incident, and the conversation was about their bakery business, in which Puneet and his wife are partners.

The incident occurred days after the recent suicide case of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash. The 34-year-old deputy general manager at a private firm was found dead in his apartment on December 9, leaving a 90-minute video and a 40-page note detailing harassment by his wife and in-laws.

Deputy commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh said, "Khurana's father Trilok Nath has produced his mobile phone and other related articles. The mobile phone of the deceased and other related articles were taken into police possession. The body will be handed over to the family members after post-mortem."

The incident was reported to the police around 4:18 pm on December 31. According to the DCP, a police team arrived at the residence immediately after being informed and found Khurana unresponsive on his bed with a ligature mark on his neck, indicating death by hanging.

The body has been sent to BJRM Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police have said that an investigation is ongoing.
