Two teams of Special Cell went to Twitter India offices located in Delhi's Lado Sarai and Gurgaon, on the outskirts of the national capital. The police said that the visits were part of a "routine process".

"This was necessitated as it was to ascertain who the right person was to serve a notice, as replies by Twitter India MD had been very ambiguous," said police.

Earlier it was reported that the police had raided Twitter India premises.

The visits came hours after Special Cell had issued a notice to Twitter demanding an explanation over its 'manipulated media' tag given to BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra's tweet on May 21.

Patra's tweet on the alleged Congress 'toolkit' which the BJP claimed was designed to target the Modi government had been tagged as 'manipulated media' by the social media platform.

Twitter had tagged Patra's tweet as 'manipulated media' following a complaint filed by the Congress party against BJP's 'toolkit' allegations.

Congress said that it did not make any such toolkit as claimed by the BJP and had urged Twitter to permanently suspend the accounts of BJP leaders, including party chief JP Nadda and Union minister Smriti Irani, for allegedly "spreading misinformation and unrest in the society".
