According to an ANI report, all nine detainees have been handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for further processing and investigation.

Seven of these individuals were arrested from a hotel in the Nabi Karim area of Central Delhi, authorities confirmed.

Preliminary investigations revealed that some of the detainees had entered India legally on tourist visas, while others had crossed the border illegally via the "donkey route," a term used for clandestine entry paths through West Bengal and Tripura.

"This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to address illegal immigration and maintain law and order in the region," said M Harshavardhan, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) for Central Delhi. With these latest arrests, the total number of Bangladeshi nationals detained by the Central Delhi Police has risen to 14.

Verification drives yield more arrests

In a related operation on Saturday, the South West District Police apprehended a Bangladeshi national who had been residing illegally in Palam Village for the past three years. Identified as Md Sahidul Islam, the individual was found without valid documentation and in possession of photocopied Bangladeshi documents. He was taken into custody by officers from the Palam Village Police Station and has since been handed over to the FRRO for deportation.

Special Commissioner of Police (law and order), Madhup Tiwari, said that these verification drives are being conducted under the directives of Delhi lieutenant governor Vinai Kumar Saxena to identify and take action against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
