He alleged that the BJP's manifesto was merely duplicated from existing schemes in Karnataka and Telangana, suggesting these programmes would have limited impact.

In his interview with ANI, Sandeep Dikshit stated, "All this is just a copy of here and there. The Indira Rasoi that is running in Karnataka and before that in Telangana has been a very popular scheme of the Congress. They have copied that...In New Delhi, the slum dwellers were picked up and thrown out. Who will take care of them? These schemes are not going to affect a lot of people, there will not be much of a difference by this. This scheme of giving subsidized cylinders is a scheme of Congress. We should ask the BJP why don't they announce it all over India..."

Regular Nukkad Sabhas are being organised, and the party has emphasised social media as a crucial component of their campaign strategy, he indicated.

"We have a dedicated social media team highlighting past statements and actions of AAP MLA Amantullah Khan while also showcasing videos of areas lacking development to present a real picture to the voters," Jamai said.

He asserted that this venture contradicts the government's latest liquor policy.

"The company purchased the land in Palakkad two years ago, to set up a college, and its owner has been arrested in connection with the scam," he stated.

He questioned the government's private negotiations with the company and the exclusion of other potential stakeholders.

Satheesan expressed concerns about Palakkad's acute groundwater shortage, criticising Excise Minister M B Rajesh for endangering his constituency's drinking water supply by backing this venture.
He accused the Excise Minister of making false statements regarding the matter.

"Minister is trying to create an impression that there is a rift between me and Ramesh Chennithala. However, there is no such difference," Satheesan stated.
"If any disagreement arises, we will resolve it through discussions," he further remarked.

'Kejriwal income rose by 40% during COVID; Sisodia took 1.5 cr loan from private individuals': BJP

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva alleged on Saturday that AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal's income saw a 40 per cent rise during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-21.

During a press briefing, Sachdeva sought clarification from the AAP Chief regarding this increase.

"In 2020-21, during the COVID period, Kejriwal's income increased by 40 per cent. This question still remains unresolved. Kejriwal, who always gives his opinion on every issue, becomes mute on this matter. Since the Delhi elections are here, he must answer where the money came from," he said.

Sachdeva further raised questions about AAP leader Manish Sisodia, stating that he obtained Rs 1.5 crore in loans from three private individuals for his son's education.

"We all take loans in different ways to educate our children, and so does Manish Sisodia. There is a loan of 1.5 crore rupees, but when we look into the details, we find that the loan was not given by a bank, but by personal friends. This loan came after the liquor policy was implemented. The CAG report says that 2,026 crore rupees were misappropriated in the liquor scam. One of the individuals who gave a loan, Umesh Chand Mittal, provided 86 lakh rupees without interest. Another person gave around 9-10 lakh rupees, and there is also Gunit Arora, who gave 58 lakh rupees," Virendra Sachdeva alleged.
Sachdeva emphasised that these matters warrant thorough investigation.

Arvind Kejriwal hits back at Delhi Police, says 'Unbreakable' screening was 'private event'

Following Delhi Police's statement regarding lack of permission for 'Unbreakable' film screening, Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP leader, clarified that it was a private gathering rather than an electoral event.
During a press briefing, Kejriwal emphasised that the screening lacked any electoral elements such as flags, speeches, or campaign materials, distinguishing it from political propaganda.

He maintained his stance that the BJP fears the film's content as it reveals what he termed "illegal and unconstitutional actions" of their government, expressing disapproval of the screening's cancellation.

Kejriwal stated, "A film has been made on AAP. Today we had a special screening for journalists but Delhi Police in morning reached there and stopped the screening of the film. It was private screening. It was not an election campaign, there was no election flag, election speech or election propaganda. Why BJP is scared from this film? It was a private screening of the film I haven't seen this film but I was told that this shows the story when AAP leaders were sent to jail and it exposes illegal and unconstitutional actions of the BJP government. That's why BJP is scared. We condemn the way film screening was stopped. We hope we will get the permission to screen this film."

He further remarked, "This is not an election event. It has nothing to do with election. This is no any party symbol or flag. We tried to make the police understand. This is hooliganism and dictatorship."
Earlier, Delhi Police had declared the screening would violate guidelines, citing that no authorisation was obtained for showing the AAP documentary 'Unbreakable'.

Kejriwal says Delhi Police prevented documentary screening, officials cite MCC

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal claimed on Saturday that Delhi Police blocked the screening of a documentary that revealed details about the arrests of his party members. A senior police official stated that organisers failed to obtain necessary permissions, particularly given the active Model Code of Conduct ahead of the February 5 assembly elections.

Kejriwal challenged the requirement for permission, stating it was a private screening for media representatives and not a political gathering. He emphasised, "No votes were going to be sought at the event neither anything was to be said against any party."

He asserted that the police acted on BJP's instructions to prevent the screening.

"The BJP is completely scared of the documentary because it uncovers the secrets and conspiracies behind the arrest of AAP leaders in the past two years. It exposes the illegal and unconstitutional activities of the BJP," he claimed.

Free power, water schemes to cover tenants too if AAP returns to power: Arvind Kejriwal

On Saturday, AAP's national convener Arvind Kejriwal announced plans to extend free electricity and water benefits to tenants if his party returns to power. During a press conference in Delhi, he addressed the concerns of rental residents. "Wherever I go, I meet people living on rent who say they benefit from good schools and hospitals but are deprived of free electricity and water schemes," he said.

Kejriwal provided assurance by stating, "We will ensure that after the elections, tenants, many of whom belong to the Purvanchal region, will also enjoy the benefits of free electricity and water."

This declaration coincides with AAP's intensified campaign for the Delhi assembly elections scheduled for February 5, with results expected on February 8.

The AAP, in its bid for a third straight term, has centred its campaign on social welfare programmes, highlighting free utilities and enhanced public services as its primary achievements.

Priyanka Kakkar accuses BJP of copying AAP's schemes in its Delhi poll manifesto

The AAP national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar criticised the BJP's manifesto for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly election on Saturday, alleging that it duplicated AAP government schemes. She questioned whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi had endorsed the manifesto, given his previous criticism of such welfare programmes as handouts.

"In the BJP manifesto, they made it clear that the welfare services in Delhi will continue. When they adopted Arvind Kejriwal's schemes in their manifesto, it meant that till now Prime Minister Modi was lying by calling our schemes freebies. Does the manifesto released yesterday have Prime Minister Modi's stamp on it?" Priyanka Kakkar stated in her conversation with ANI.

"Their manifesto was completely silent on the Law and order situation. The gangs of criminals have taken over Delhi. The notorious criminals sitting in Sabarmati jail get murders executed in Delhi, what is their view on this, do they have any plan to do something or not," she further remarked.

The BJP's National President and Union Minister JP Nadda unveiled the party's Delhi Assembly election manifesto on Friday.

The BJP's key promises included various welfare schemes for women, beginning with six nutritional packages and Rs 21,000 in monetary support through the Matritva Suraksha Yojana to support pregnant women's health and welfare.

The party has also proposed the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, offering Delhi women monthly financial support of Rs 2,500 to enhance their economic independence.

Congress MLA Vinesh Phogat from Julana criticised both BJP and AAP on Friday for politicising the Jat reservation issue whilst failing to take concrete steps towards its resolution.

She highlighted that it was the Congress government which had issued a notification on March 4, 2014, including the Jat community in the OBC category for nine states: Delhi, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

During a press conference, Phogat stated, "But after the Supreme Court struck down the notification in March 2015, Modi govt at the Centre did not strongly plead for Jat reservation nor did the then CM Kejriwal take a strong stand for it."

The Jat community's reservation has emerged as a contentious issue before the assembly elections. On January 9, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah of failing the community by not including them in the Centre's OBC list. Subsequently, on January 16, National Commission for Backward Classes chairperson Hansraj Gangaram Ahir revealed that Delhi government had not submitted any proposal regarding this matter in the past decade.

In a statement on Friday, former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that if the AAP government returns to power, students would receive complimentary bus travel. Additionally, he proposed halving the Delhi Metro fares for students.

Earlier that day, Kejriwal addressed a letter to PM Narendra Modi requesting shared financial responsibility for the proposed student metro fare reduction, given that the project is jointly managed by the Centre and Delhi government. The AAP national convener emphasised that students rely on the Delhi Metro for travelling to their educational institutions. "To reduce the financial burden on students, I propose a 50% concession for them in Delhi Metro. Since the Centre and Delhi govt are equal partners in Delhi Metro, the expenditure should be borne equally," he stated in the letter.

According to the Election Commission of India, 1521 nominations have been submitted for the Delhi assembly elections scheduled for February 5, covering all 70 constituencies. These nominations represent 981 candidates vying for positions in the Delhi Assembly, as confirmed by the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer's office.

The nomination papers will undergo scrutiny today, with January 20 set as the final date for candidates to withdraw their nominations.

The Election Commission reported that January 17, the final nomination day, saw 680 papers being submitted.

The New Delhi Assembly Constituency received the highest number of nominations, with 40 papers filed by 29 candidates. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is competing for this seat against BJP's Parvesh Verma and Congress' Sandeep Dikshit, both sons of previous Delhi chief ministers.

In contrast, Kasturba Nagar Assembly Constituency recorded the lowest number, with nine nominations from six candidates. The main contenders are AAP's Ramesh Pahalwan, BJP's Neeraj Basoya, and Congress' Abhishek Dutt.

The Kalkaji constituency received 28 nominations from 18 candidates, featuring incumbent CM Atishi competing against BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress' Alka Lamba.

For the Patparganj seat, 11 candidates submitted 20 nomination papers, with AAP nominating prominent educator Awadh Ojha.

SC stays Delhi HC order of asking Delhi to sign MoU with Centre on implementation of PM-ABHIM scheme

The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the Delhi high court's order directing signing an MoU between the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Delhi government for implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) scheme in the national capital.

A bench of Justices BR Gavai and AG Masih issued notice and sought the Centre's response on the plea of Delhi government challenging the High Court order.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appearing for Delhi government questioned how can the high court force the Delhi government to sign the MoU with Centre.

He contended that if MoU signed, the government of India will bear 60 per cent of the capital expenditure and Delhi government to bear 40 per cent but Centre has to bear 0 per cent running expenditure.

Singhvi claimed that the reach and coverage of Delhi government's own scheme is much larger.

'They are making false promises but they don't have money': Cong on Kejriwal's proposal for 50% metro concession in Delhi Metro

Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit on Friday, criticized AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal's proposal for a 50% metro concession in Delhi Metro, calling it an "irresponsible" move.

Dikshit, in a statement, questioned why AAP had not implemented the 50% concession themselves, despite previously making similar promises. "They (AAP) said this earlier also... Why don't they give 50% (concession) themselves?" he remarked.

He further accused the AAP government of attempting to shift the blame to the central government, saying, "They want to show that they want to give, but the Indian government is not cooperating. This is how they will blame the Centre."

Dikshit alleged that AAP was making false promises without having the financial capacity to fulfil them and would later blame the central government for not allowing them to work.

"They are making false promises but they don't have money. Then they will blame the central government that they did not let AAP work..," he said.

The remarks come as Kejriwal has reiterated his call for the metro concession, urging the Centre to cooperate in implementing the proposal.

Delhi Elections 2025 Live Updates: Sandeep Dikshit declares assets worth Rs 11.12 crore

Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit, contesting from the New Delhi constituency, has declared a net worth of Rs 11.12 crore in his nomination papers filed on Thursday.

Dikshit reported Rs 1.04 crore in movable assets, while his wife holds Rs 2.41 crore in movable assets. The couple also disclosed liabilities totaling Rs 75.57 lakh.

In terms of immovable assets, Sandeep Dikshit owns properties valued at Rs 5.14 crore, and his wife’s immovable assets are worth Rs 2.53 crore.

For the financial year 2023-24, Dikshit declared an income of Rs16.33 lakh, while his wife reported an income of Rs 7.34 lakh.

Dikshit confirmed in his affidavit submitted to the Election Commission that there are no pending criminal cases against him.

The total value of Sandeep Dikshit’s movable and immovable assets stands at Rs 11.12 crore.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced that male students studying in schools and colleges will be offered free bus facility and 50 per cent concession in metro fare if AAP government returns to power in Delhi.

"The Aam Aadmi Party government gives maximum importance to education. The poor miss out on education because they do not have money. If our government is formed again, students will be provided free bus facility. It is free for girl students now and we will make it free for boys too, said Arvind Kejriwal," said Kejriwal.

Notably, for now Delhi has a free bus service that allows women to travel fare-free in all AC and non-AC buses operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation.

Further mentioning about his letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposing that a 50 per cent concession must be given to students who commute in Delhi Metro Kejriwal said, "A large number of students use the metro in Delhi, which has become expensive. A common student faces a lot of problems in commuting it...Metro is the 50-50 venture of the Delhi government and the Central government...I have written a letter to the Prime Minister that students should be given a 50 per cent discount on the metro ticket."

"The expense that will come after giving the concession, that expense will be divided 50-50 between the Delhi government and the Central government. This is an issue of public interest, there is no politics in it. I hope the PM will accept this...Post elections, travel for all students in Delhi buses will be free. We will provide a 50% concession in metro fares for all Delhi students...," he added.

If our government is formed again in Delhi, we will provide concession in Delhi Metro and free travel in buses to students studying in schools and colleges: Kejriwal said.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday criticised Bharatiya Janata Party's spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla after he allegedly abused AAP MLA Rituraj Jha during a live show on a national news channel.

In a social media post on X, Akhilesh accused BJP of insulting "Purvanchalis" and said that the statement reflects the narrow thinking of the party towards people coming from UP and Bihar.

"It is not only unfortunate but also highly condemnable that a national spokesperson of BJP distorted the surname of an elected MLA of Aam Aadmi Party, Delhi on a national news channel and used a highly offensive abusive word for that surname," Akhilesh said.
